Darktheatre.net is a general odd ball site that's sort of like a blog and sort of like a portal. Founded in 1819 by Lenny8088 while searching for Arcadia, our destiny and our right, it's been in continuous operation since then with only a few short outages (lack of internet was a bit rough) which were beyond the control of it's owner.

Gaming/Fight Club: Today is GM's Day

In honor of today I ask that you all raise a toast to all the GMs (good and bad) that you've had over the years - Even the worst game session is better than the best day at work.

We should have gotten today off as a holiday.

That's right. The A Team movie.

You know you want to see it. You know it won't be that good, but you're going to see it anyway.

There is no plan B.

Random Page Clip: Chris P

Oldest member of the WGG (with the exception of Time of course), Chris has been part of nearly every major WGG game. It's also a fact that without Chris, the WGG wouldn't exist. It was his comic/game shop Gateway that served as the center for the WGG games for many years and through Chris' contacts and friends we gained nearly every member.

Chris was out of the group for a few years, but he's back as of 2007 and once again a regular player.

Ravings: What is Time?

My wife has been trying to figure me out for years with little progress. Perhaps this physicist will be able to shed some light on things.

I am probably one of the last gamers on earth to actually see this vid of the Colonel and his dice making techniques. Excellent. Perfect. This guy is a gamer.

I am buying dice from this guy at Gen Con

Entertainment: Superman for $1M

At a recent on-line auction a copy of the first Superman comic has been sold on the internet for $1m.

Pretty sweet profit on that if you were able to get the original back when it solf for 10c.

Sucks that my comic collection will never fund my retirement.

Mythos: MiGo OS

From Charles Ward and the LNN - this little gem is too good to be true. Intel and Nokia create a mobile OS and decide to name it after a malevolent species from the mythos. MeeGo.

War/Politics: Nazi Nukes

Finding odd shaped uranium in a Dutch scrapyard and tracing it back has all the makings of a good CoC/Delta Green like story. Add in some cultists (besides the Nazi's), a shoggoth, maybe a few strange idols that blister the skin when held, and a long lost Ph.d dude and you'd be ready to go.

Death and Dying: Homicidal World

Time and I have discussed this a few times and it always seems surprisingly tough to find good stats on how many people are homicided (nice word admin!) each year. But this here is a good visual of the murder rates across the globe.

Pathfinder will be putting out a second monster book later this year. Would be cool if they had it ready for Gen Con so I could get my hands on it then, but I guess I'll have to wait.

Mythos: Quake Strikes IL

I'm certain that this 4.3 quake that hit Sycamore IL is of no relation to some terrible Mythos spellcasting or caling forth of creatures man was not meant to know. There's also no possible way that the Mythos would also be responsible for the April, 2008 quake that hit West Salem IL either.

It's all perfectly normal.

Gaming/Fight Club: 12 Days of Greenwood

While I know Lenny hates the Forgotten Realms for various reasons I know there are others who like it. Me, I'm a fan of the old school, 1st Ed setting only.

Anywho... this dude, J. Robert King has put together 12 blog entries from an interview that he did with Ed Greenwood and he's been posting them day at a time.

If nothing else, Greenwood serves as an example of how a writer who has enough passion for his hobby can make a living at it.

Elminster would be proud.

Mythos: Now How Do We Cast the Banishing Spell?

In gaming whenever the intrepid adventurers run into a rare and powerful language they don't know ("can I kinda know it ... I speak draconic?"), they find some librarian or Liche or janitor that does know it. Even if you roll a "1" you still get some clue, hint, pathway to success. Why? Because if the last speaker of that language had just died, only a couple of days before you got there, it would mean you (as adventurers) were SOL and the adventure was over.

Moral of the story? Stop dicking around with side stories and get on with it ... You never know when your resource could die

TPG Gear/Tech: Google Wants In on the iPad Game

Sure they're just in the mock up stage right now but Google is looking for a Chrome OS based tablet computer to eventually hit the market.

While Google seems to do things right when they finlaly pull the trigger on something, I'm not sure they could beat the iPad.

Apparently over half a dozen people have been killed for singing Old Blue Eye's "My Way" in Karaoke bars in the Philippines. It also looks like John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads" is bad too.

Iran said Wednesday it had launched a rocket carrying a rodent, two turtles and some worms into orbit, claiming it as a successful advance in their space program.

Announcements: And We're Back ... Kinda

As was reported in the leading news rags such as Crawl Street Journal, USvsA Today and the Ryleh Times, DT did suffer a major outage and loss of data. While not directly blaming it's hosting company, amhosting.com, for the corruption and terrible customer support after the event neither shall DT be singing it's praises (because they suck). In fact ... we may be moving if the Pika plan comes thru.

I apologize to all of you who lost PC's, campaigns, info, postings, etc. The data loss was significant and substantial and I really miss Ryan Flowers.

Alt. Science/News: Penny For Your Mind

You know all those school "contests" where the kids all try and collect 1 million pennies (but you never hear of them succeeding)? Well, at some point somebody (who was probably evil) told me that the human mind can't even envision a million pennies - it's too much. Like a sucker(zulu) I bought into that and as usual I was totally wrong.

This site gives a great representation of just how many pennies a million (and 10 million and 1 billion, etc) are. And let me tell you - I can indeed visualize it. Or is it a Penny For Your Thoughts?

TPG Gear/Tech: Doc Oct

This is a longish - boring article about a bunch of stuff dealing with superconductors and the like which you really don't want to read. But what is interesting is that the latest superconductor is immune to magnetism. Anyone who watched Spidey 2 knows that such material is exactly what Doctor Octupus' arms were made of. Immune to heat (thus a superconductor because there is "no" friction from electricity) AND immune to magnetism.

I think I'll patent this idea ... maybe call it "Super villian articulating device using superconducting material that is immune to heat and magnetism". Heck if can patent the smiley face this should be a breeze.

Gaming/Fight Club: Stiles Favorite Bar

This little drum band is a good representation of Stiles' favorite bar in the 'verse. It's a small counter-culture place out on a far flung moon. Japanese, with a strong dislike of the Alliance and Chinese powers. He and Toad actually first met there. Band plays every Friday night and the place is packed with Browncoats, disillusioned purple bellies and artists. Odd place. Fun place.

General Thompson would never show up there
